January 24: Wedding Month
Kronos/Saturn and Phylira, Parents of the Centaur Cheiron
Somewhere at the beginning of time, the titans Kronos and Rhea ruled the world. But it wasn’t a great marriage. Rhea had been shocked to the bone, when Kronos started devouring the children she bore him. He had explained it was a necessary move to hold on to his power. In doing so, he was protecting her and their future together. Rhea couldn’t care less about his power, and even less about their future together. And she couldn’t forgive him. Her icy attittude drove Kronos into the arms of the nymph Phylira. With her, he could forget the world and his responsibilities and feel warm and comforted. Until Rhea walked in on them. His first instinct was… to flee. He took the form of a horse and galloped away. Imagine Phylira’s horror when some months later, she gave birth to a strange creature: half boy, half horse. In fact, she had every reason to be proud, because her son would grow up to become Cheiron, wisest of all and tutor of Peleus, Asklepios, Theseus, Herakles, Iason and Achilles.
